The Retirement Myth

Because most people can’t afford to retire

And I am one of them.

I am a dreamer and a risk taker, and that combination usually does not do well with regulated employment. I worked for a few companies in my younger years, but eventually drifted towards self-employment. I’m also not a businessman and that combination meant I did not save enough for retirement.

I am now retired, or so society says, but I still need an income and hence my continual pursuit towards a paying past-time.

I created a series of podcasts, videos in which I discussed retirement and shared some advice and also shared my first few months of my journey and these are the links to get you there:

Why most people buy into the Retirement Myth:

A short history of retirement.

A birding walk at The Pink Geranium.

A weekend in Mossel Bay with a surprise visit from some wildlife.

The difference between a Retirement Annuity and a Living Annuity.

Different Living annuity choices.

Some great images of the birds in our garden in the Northern suburbs of Cape Town.

Why we must have a budget and how we do it.

A nifty little way of saving for payments that we know are coming.

Save money, bake bread. Here I show you how to bake a loaf of bread with four simple ingredients.

Some advice on diversification, we need more than one basket for our eggs.

Writing is my passion.

A surprise visitor for our holistic talk (I know it’s awful, but I had fun)

Some more bread products from the same basic recipe.

Do what you enjoy, I stick to writing.

But be disciplined else whatever you are doing will not move forward.

Advice on being persistent even if you don’t feel like it.

Follow a process, not just random stuff.

And that’s all folks.
